QUEENS CATHOLIC SCHOOL IS A BIG PART OF ONE FAMILY’S HISTORY

The Diocese of Brooklyn today announced that this year’s St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy of Queens graduation had a very special meaning for the family of one student of the Class of 2019.

 

The graduation ceremony marked the last in a line of 13 family members to be awarded a diploma from the school. Now as a graduate, Alex Mansueto joins the ranks of his great-grandmother, his great aunt, great uncle, his grandfather, his grandmother, his uncles, cousins, his mother, and his sister.

 

St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy of Queens is located in Maspeth.

THE COLLARS DEFEAT THE SCHOLARS AT CATHOLIC SCHOOLS NIGHT

 

Catholic School Night was celebrated at MCU Park in Coney Island last night, as part of the Brooklyn Cyclones game against the Aberdeen IronBirds.

 

Prior to the start of the game, a special contest between the “Collars vs. Scholars”, took place on the field. The match-up featured baseball played between Diocese of Brooklyn’s priests and principals/school administrators.  The final score of the pre-game was 2-1, with the Collars winning for the second year in a row. The Brooklyn Cyclones also won their game last night.

 

Ed Wilkinson, Editor Emeritus of The Tablet, served as the umpire for the pre-game baseball challenge. A bobblehead doll, created for the 2018 MVP of the Scholars team, Sister Shirlee Tremont of St. Bernadette Catholic Academy, was distributed to fans.

 

“What a tremendous turnout of students from Catholic schools and academies throughout Brooklyn and Queens. The spirit of Catholic education filled MCU Park last night, as our schools celebrated the end of this school year.  The Diocese of Brooklyn has many great priests, pastors, principals, and teachers, who have been blessed with many talents, including skill on the baseball diamond,” said John Quaglione, Deputy Press Secretary, Diocese of Brooklyn.

 

The pre-game activities also featured a ceremony honoring Catholic elementary school valedictorians and salutatorians, sponsored by the Catholic Telemedia Network (CTN). Catholic School Night at MCU Park is sponsored by the DeSales Media Group.

SPECIAL GRADUATION AT QUEENS CATHOLIC SCHOOL TOMORROW

The Diocese of Brooklyn is announcing the St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy graduation, taking place in the church at 61-15 Grand Avenue this Friday, June 14 at 6 p.m., will have extraordinary meaning for one family, as a graduate will be the last in a line of 13 family members to be awarded a diploma from the school.

 

As a member of the Class of 2019, Alex Mansueto follows in the footsteps of his great-grandmother, his great aunt and uncle, his grandfather and grandmother, his uncles and cousins, his mother and his sister.  His great-grandmother, who was in the first graduating class, his grandmother, mother, and sister, will all be in attendance.

COLLARS VS. SCHOLARS BASEBALL GAME ANNOUNCED AS PART OF CATHOLIC SCHOOL NIGHT AT THE CYCLONES GAME

 

The Diocese of Brooklyn today announced Catholic School Night at MCU Park in Coney Island will be celebrated on Monday, June 17, as part of the Brooklyn Cyclones game against the Aberdeen IronBirds.

 

Prior to the start of the Cyclones’ game, a contest between “Collars vs. Scholars”, will take place on the field at 5:45 PM. This match-up will feature baseball played between priests and principals/school administrators.  Auxiliary Bishop Paul Sanchez and Dr. Tom Chadzutko, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for Brooklyn and Queens, are among those set to play.

 

Ed Wilkinson, Editor Emeritus of The Tablet, will serve as the umpire for this very special pre-game baseball challenge. United States Coast Guard Personnel, Response Boats and K-9 Officer to Visit St. Anselm Catholic Academy

            Brooklyn – The Diocese of Brooklyn is announcing the U.S. Coast Guard will visit the students of St. Anselm Catholic Academy located at 365-83rd Street in Bay Ridge on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at 12 PM to showcase the people, mission, and equipment to the children.

 

Highlights will include two 29-foot Response Boats and explosives K-9 Officer “Ruthie.” Students will have the opportunity to tour the Response Boats and try on the gear. The primary unit and personnel conducting the visit are from the Maritime Safety and Security Team New York that is based at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island.

 

Maritime Safety and Security Teams were established as part of the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 in direct response to the September 11, 2001 attacks, to enhance the domestic maritime security capability of the United States.

Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, regrets to inform you of the death of Reverend Monsignor Matthew F. Foley, a retired priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Monsignor Foley was born on May 4, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, was ordained to the Priesthood on June 2, 1956, and died Friday, May 24, 2019, at the Bishop Mugavero Residence, Douglaston. Monsignor Foley served the Diocese of Brooklyn as Pastor of the Parish of Epiphany (Brooklyn) as well as Parochial Vicar of Sacred Heart (Brooklyn). He also served as Co-Director of Catholic Charities Family Services. On May 14, 1986, he was named Prelate of Honor to His Holiness.

***BRAZEN SCAM: USING THE BISHOP’S NAME TO LURE
BROOKLYN AND QUEENS FAITHFUL IN GIFT CARD TEXT SCHEME***

Diocese of Brooklyn parishioners and employees have been receiving text messages from a scammer posing as local pastors and even Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio.

 

The scammer or scammers have texted asking people to purchase gift cards for a person in the hospital. The person instructs the recipient on how to text back the pin number on the back of the cards and asks them to do it quickly.

Numerous parishes and parishioners have been targeted and thousands of dollars in donations have been sent by those who have fallen victim. Some of the parishes targeted include:

 

St. Rose of Lima – Rockaway Beach

St. Helen – Howard Beach

Incarnation – Queens Village

Our Lady of Perpetual Help – South Ozone Park

St. Clare – Rosedale

St. Fortunata – East New York

On May 7 an official diocesan email was sent to church pastors and administrators making them aware of the scam. The New York City Police Department has also been notified and police reports have been filed.
