The following summary details the changes which have been implemented in Catholic elementary schools/academies within the Diocese of Brooklyn for the 2013-2014 academic year.
The Office of the Superintendent is pleased to announce that ten schools have made the transition to the academy model. The new academies within Brooklyn are St. Anselm Catholic Academy, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Academy, St. Jerome Catholic Academy, and St. Patrick Catholic Academy. The new academies within Queens are Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Academy, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Academy, Sacred Heart Catholic Academy (Cambria Heights), St. Clare Catholic Academy, St. Kevin Catholic Academy, and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Academy.
Consolidation has occurred at three academies.
- Our Lady of Trust Catholic Academy has consolidated at their North and South Campus site to one building at the former Saint Jude School.
- Queen of the Rosary Catholic Academy has consolidated both campuses into the building of the former St. Nicholas High School. Both present campus sites have moved into the new building.
- Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Academy has consolidated to one site at St. Michael.
Announced school closings included St. Fidelis Catholic School in College Point and Saints Joseph and Dominic Catholic Academy in Brooklyn.
Divine Wisdom Catholic Academy has expanded. The former Saint Robert Bellarmine School has closed and re-opened as the Bayside Campus of Divine Wisdom Catholic Academy.
Saints Mary Mother of Jesus ~ St Frances Cabrini Catholic Academy in Brooklyn has selected a new name: Saint Peter Catholic Academy. This new name was announced in the late Spring.
