World Youth Day 1989

Location: Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Theme: “I am the Way; I am Truth and Life.” (John 14:6)

In 1989,  Europe was experiencing changes within their political parties, Pope John Paul II took many of the young adults from all over the world on the oldest pilgrimage route in Europe — El Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James). Pope John Paul II said, addressing the youth, “at the tomb of St James we want to learn that our faith has historical foundations; it is not something vague and transient.” Watch an excerpt from the Holy Mass below.
