On Tuesday, June, 16, 2009 the Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio will undergo cardiac surgery. He will undergo the procedure at a local Catholic Hospital.
Three weeks ago, in the midst of his daily exercise regime, the Bishop noticed a significantly elevated heart rate. His physician initially prescribed an out patient procedure. Upon closer examination, it was determined that bypass surgery was necessary correct the blockage. Read more
His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has bestowed papal honors upon 41 laywoman and laymen of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
As president of each parish corporation, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio has asked that a diocesan wide strategic planning process, that would ensure the long term stability of Catholic schools in the diocese, be undertaken. The Diocesan Reconfiguration Committee (DRC) submitted its twenty-nine (29) regional proposals to ensure the long term vitality and strength of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Read more
Thanks to the generosity of the Tri State Italian American Congress, 50 students from the Catholic Elementary Schools and Catholic High Schools received a scholarship of $500 to be applied to this year’s tuition. Read more
The Diocesan Reconfiguration Committee expects to release all its draft regional proposals to the appropriate constituents by January 11, 2009. A broad based consultation on the various proposals will be conducted immediately in every region of the Diocese following the release of the proposals. The consultation will conclude on Friday, February 12, 2009.
The New York Daily News article entitled “Cleric who fought land deal axed” published on November 27, 2008 is an example of shoddy reporting. No serious effort was made to contact the Diocese of Brooklyn or Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio to verify any of the claims found in the “story”.
Cathedral Preparatory Seminary earned a spot as one of the Top 50 Best Catholic High Schools in the country. The Catholic High School Honor Roll is an initiative designed to recognize and encourage excellence in Catholic Secondary education. The Honor Roll ranked academics, Catholic Identity and civic education.
In August of 2008 Ms. Judith Rodrigues-Lytwyn informed the Diocese of Brooklyn that she had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a priest who had served in the diocese. Despite repeated requests on the part of diocesan officials, she neither would name the priest nor would she identify the parish in which the priest had served.
