POLICE INVESTIGATE VANDALISM AT CATHOLIC CEMETERY AS POSSIBLE HATE CRIME

The NYPD is investigating the vandalism of 63 headstones and monuments at Holy Cross Cemetery, located at 3620 Tilden Avenue in Brooklyn. A 6-foot-tall shrine statue of St. Joseph was also damaged.  A field manager discovered the knocked over and broken structures at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.

13 of the damaged monuments had statues mounted on top. Those statues sustained the most damage.  The Holy Cross staff is working to reset all of the memorials, but the shrine statue, owned by the cemetery, was broken into several pieces and cannot be reset. Click here for pictures of the damaged monuments.

Hate crime officers were at the crime scene Friday investigating. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
