DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN ANNOUNCES PASSING OF REV. JOSEPH M. NOLAN

Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, regrets to inform you of the death of Reverend Joseph M. Nolan, a retired priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Father Nolan was born on April 23, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York, was ordained to the Priesthood on May 31, 1947, and died Saturday, August 31, 2019, at the Bishop Mugavero Residence, Douglaston.

Father Nolan served the Diocese of Brooklyn as Pastor of the Parish of Sacred Heart of Jesus (Cambria Heights), as well as Parochial Vicar of the parishes of Holy Innocents (Brooklyn), Immaculate Conception (Astoria), Saint Michael (Bay Ridge), Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Brooklyn), Saint Vincent Ferrer (Brooklyn), Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Brooklyn) and Our Lady of the Snows (Floral Park). He also served as Chaplain of the Young Christian Workers for Kings County and as a member of the Diocesan Priests’ Senate.

Diocese of Brooklyn Announces Passing of Father Michael Carrano

            The Diocese of Brooklyn is announcing the passing of Father Michael A. Carrano, Pastor of Our Lady of Hope, in Middle Village, Queens. Father Carrano died on Sunday, June 23, 2019, after a battle with cancer. Father Carrano was ordained a priest in 1970 and served at various parishes throughout Brooklyn and Queens during his 39 years of service.

 

In 1992, then Bishop Thomas Daily appointed Father Carrano the Diocesan Director of Youth Ministry.  His most recent assignment, Pastor of Our Lady of Hope, began in 2009. In the wake of the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001, Father Carrano played a major role spiritually for FDNY Engine 205/Ladder 118, who lost eight firefighters in the attack.

 

Father Carrano’s wake will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. inside Our Lady of Hope Church located at 61-27 71st Street in Middle Village. A Vigil Mass will also take place at Our Lady of Hope Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.

 

The Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, will preside at the funeral Mass on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Church.

Stephen (Brooklyn). He also served as Principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School (Brooklyn),
Director of the Youth Ministry Program of the Catholic Education Office as well as Dean of Queens 6
Deanery.

Father Blauvelt served the Diocese of Brooklyn as Pastor of the Parish of Saint Stanislaus Kostka (Maspeth), as well as Parochial Vicar of Saint Brendan (Brooklyn), Saint Clare (Rosedale), Saint Mary, Mother of Jesus (Brooklyn, Team Ministry), Immaculate Heart of Mary (Brooklyn), Resurrection- Ascension (Rego Park), Our Lady Queen of Martyrs (Forest Hills), Saint Ann (Flushing) and Saint Camillus (Rockaway Beach). Valero, Titular Bishop of Vicus Turris and Retired Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Bishop Valero was born on August 15, 1930 in New York City, was ordained to the Priesthood on June 2, 1956, was ordained a Bishop on November 24, 1980 and died Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Bishop Valero served the Diocese of Brooklyn as Pastor of Blessed Sacrament (Jackson Heights), as well as Parochial Vicar of Saint Agatha (Brooklyn) and Saint Michael-Saint Edward (Brooklyn).

Bishop Valero held numerous curial positions in the Diocese of Brooklyn, including serving as Vicar for Aging Concerns, Chair of the Racism Committee, Regional Bishop of Queens, Vicar for Immigration and Refugees, Coordinator of the Spanish Apostolate, Director of the Family Division of Catholic Charities and as a member of both the College of Consultors and the Diocesan Personnel Board.
