St. Bernadette’s in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, Hailed a Blue Ribbon School

On September 9, 2008 U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings announced that St. Bernadette’s will be one of only 320 schools in the entire country awarded the highly regarded No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon distinction. To qualify for this honor a school must either show dramatic gains in the achievement of their students or be judged as academically superior by the U. S. Department of Education.

Saint John the Baptist (Bedford Stuyvesant) and Saint Catherine of Sienna (Saint Albans) set to close in June; Local Communities apply to open as Charter Schools in September

On Tuesday, April 28, 2008 Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio announced that Parish School Buildings may become the sites for two new Charter Schools if the New York City Schools Chancellor and the New York State Board of Regents approve the Charter Applications.
