Memorial Mass for the Haitian Earthquake Victims
My dear brothers and sisters in the Lord,
The earthquake in Haiti has given us much cause to think and pray for the victims of this tragedy in Haiti and for those who suffer because of the loss of their relatives and friends. Perhaps, it also leads us to wonder why earthquakes occur. From a scientific view, seismologists can tell us how and why they happen. That is not a satisfactory answer because, somehow, we view natural disasters as part of the problem of evil that humankind has struggled to understand since its very beginning. Read more

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, will celebrate a Memorial Mass of Remembrance for the Victims of the Haitian earthquake at the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn on Friday February 12, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. The Most Reverend Guy Sansariq, Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn and the first Haitian born Bishop to be consecrated in the United States will preach the sermon. Investigation Into Alleged Violation Of Child Pornography Laws
Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio has announced that Monsignor Michael Dempsey was placed on administrative leave. The Diocese of Brooklyn was recently informed by Monsignor Dempsey that federal law enforcement is investigating him for the violation of internet child pornography laws which he does not deny. Allow me to share with you that no information presented in the investigation involved any members of this parish.

Pope Benedict XVI Names New Monsignor
Eight Brooklyn Priests Are Recognized for Their Service to the Catholic Church
The Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Ph.D., D.D., Bishop of Brooklyn, announced that His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, conferred the honor of Chaplains to His Holiness to seven priests of the Diocese of Brooklyn, an honor which carries the title of Reverend Monsignor and entitles them to wear a black cassock with fuchsia piping and buttons along with a fuchsia sash. Bishop DiMarzio Undergoes Surgery
On Tuesday, June, 16, 2009 the Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio will undergo cardiac surgery. He will undergo the procedure at a local Catholic Hospital.
Three weeks ago, in the midst of his daily exercise regime, the Bishop noticed a significantly elevated heart rate. His physician initially prescribed an out patient procedure. Upon closer examination, it was determined that bypass surgery was necessary correct the blockage. Read more
