QUEENS CATHOLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS TO PRAY, SING AND SALSA DANCE TO CELEBRATE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

            The Diocese of Brooklyn today is announcing that St. Sebastian Catholic Academy will host a special assembly to commemorate National Hispanic Heritage Month at the school this Friday, October 18, 2019, beginning at 8:00 a.m., located at 39-76 58^th Street in the Woodside section of Queens.

The event will feature students saying prayers and singing songs in Spanish, as well as a Salsa dance performance.  The students of St. Sebastian’s have been learning about Hispanic Heritage Month in their Spanish classes throughout the last month.

STATUE HONORING MOTHER CABRINI TO BE PART OF THE COLUMBUS DAY FLOAT SPONSORED BY THE DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN

The Diocese of Brooklyn today announced that it will be featuring a Mother Cabrini statue aboard their float which will be part of the 2019 New York City Columbus Day Parade, on Monday, October 14, 2019, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn will get on the float upon its arrival in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral (5^th Avenue between East 49^th and 50^th Streets) at approximately 1:00 p.m.

Mother Cabrini recently received the most votes in the “She Built NYC” competition, which aims to build more statues honoring women. But despite earning this top ranking, a public statue honoring her life is not part of the City’s current plans.

BROOKLYN AND QUEENS FAITHFUL KEEP HOPE ALIVE FOR MOTHER CABRINI STATUE

The Diocese of Brooklyn today is announcing that Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and the Italian Apostolate of the Diocese of Brooklyn, will host a procession and Mass this Sunday, October 6, 2019, starting at 3 PM, in support of the construction of a public statue recognizing Mother Cabrini as part of the “She Built NYC” program.

The procession will begin at 3 PM in Mother Cabrini Park, located at 41 President Street in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn. The procession will continue to Sacred Hearts – St. Stephen Church located at 125 Summit Street, where Mass will begin at 4 PM.

St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, the Patron Saint of Immigrants, arrived in New York in 1889 with the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. Mother Cabrini Park is located at the former site of a church building where Mother Cabrini first ministered to the poor immigrants of the Italian community.

“Mother Frances Cabrini was certainly one of the women who built New York City. Her work to establish orphanages, schools, and a hospital, along with her commitment to immigrants, absolutely should be recognized. The failure to honor Mother Cabrini with a public statue would be an affront to many New Yorkers, especially Italian-Americans, who see her as most deserving,” said the Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn.
