New York Catholics to Celebrate World Communications Day

On Wednesday, May 11th at 11 a.m., DeSales Media Group will host the Diocese of Brooklyn’s World Communications Day Catholic Media Conference. The 25th annual event at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, 333 Adams Street, Downtown Brooklyn, aligns with the Vatican’s 50th annual celebration of World Communications Day.

World Communications Day was established by Pope Paul VI in 1967 as time to explore how modern means of social communication can best be utilized by the Church. This year’s theme chosen by Pope Francis is “Communication and Mercy: A Fruitful Encounter.”

BISHOP DIMARZIO TO BLESS HOLY OILS AND PRESIDE OVER RENEWAL OF PRIESTLY VOWS AT CHRISM MASS

On Tuesday, March 22nd at 8 p.m., the Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, will celebrate the annual Mass of the Chrism at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, 856 Pacific Street, Brooklyn, NY. During the Mass, the bishop will bless the oils used for sacramental anointing. He will also preside over the renewal of promises made by priests serving the diocese in Brooklyn and Queens. DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN LAUNCHES ANNUAL AD CAMPAIGN PROMOTING THE SACRAMENT OF CONFESSION

The Diocese of Brooklyn, in partnership with the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Rockville Centre, is launching its annual Lenten campaign to promote the Sacrament of Confession. On the Monday of Holy Week, which falls on March 21 this year, churches in the greater New York City area, New York’s upper counties and on Long Island will be open for confession from 3 p.m. through 9 p.m. This initiative, known as Reconciliation Monday, has become an annual event in the participating dioceses.

In celebration of the Feast of St. Joseph, five priests from the Diocese of Brooklyn will join musical talents for a live organ recital at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph. Beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 18th, fathers Jeremy Canna, Gerald Dumont, Steven Giuletti, Carlos Velasquez and Joel Warden will play five pieces on the co-cathedral’s newly restored antique organ. The Moller organ, with 3000 pipes and 13 ranks, is more than 100 years old.

Queens, NY – On Saturday, hundreds of New York Catholics, many with Latin American roots, will gather at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Jamaica, Queens, to watch Pope Francis celebrate Holy Mass LIVE from Mexico City. The Mass will be held at Mexico’s National Shrine, the Basilica of Guadalupe. The Pontiff’s 6-day visit to Mexico is part of his first Apostolic Trip of 2016.

“Presentation church is home to a big Hispanic community, welcoming a vast group of Mexican parishioners. With this special viewing, our Mexican brothers and sisters will have the opportunity to spiritually travel back to Mexico and witness the blessings of having our Holy Father in their homeland, as he blesses their land, their roots and their people,” said Father Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez, pastor of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish.

NET TV, a Catholic television station headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, announced availability expansion on Verizon Fios. NET TV’s original Catholic programming is now available on Channel 48 in the New York metropolitan area and beyond.

BROOKLYN DIOCESE TO LIGHT CHRISTMAS TREE AND BLESS FIRST PROSPECT PARK NATIVITY SCENE IN OVER A DECADE

On Wednesday, December 16th, at 4:00 p.m., the Diocese of Brooklyn will light a Christmas tree and bless a Nativity scene at Grand Army Plaza in Prospect Park, as part of the celebrations for the Holy Season of Christmas.

The Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, will bless the crèche right by the triumphal arch at the main entrance of the park. “As we gather to bless this Nativity scene, we are reminded to keep Christ in Christmas as we prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ into the history of our world. It is an opportunity to bring hope and peace to our tolerant city, as we teach the new generations love and compassion through diverse traditions,” said Bishop DiMarzio.

LA DIÓCESIS DE BROOKLYN HONRARÁ A LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE CON TRADICIONAL PEREGRINACIÓN

La Diócesis de Brooklyn celebrará el Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe este sábado, 12 de diciembre, a partir del mediodía en la Concatedral de San José, 856 Pacific Street, Prospect Heights.

Monseñor Nicholas DiMarzio, Obispo de Brooklyn, celebrará la Santa Misa junto a los Obispos Auxiliares monseñor James Massa y monseñor Octavio Cisneros, quien ofrecerá la homilía en español. Inmediatamente después de la misa, a la 1 p.m., los clérigos bendecirán y encenderán las antorchas de los feligreses, quienes peregrinarán hacia sus parroquias por las calles de Brooklyn y Queens. Los peregrinos llevarán las antorchas a sus iglesias correspondientes al son de cánticos, oraciones y mensajes de amor y paz.

BROOKLYN DIOCESE TO HONOR OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE WITH TRADITIONAL TORCH PILGRIMAGE

On Saturday, December 12th, the Diocese of Brooklyn will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe starting at noon at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, 856 Pacific Street, Prospect Heights.

Holy Mass will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, and concelebrated by Auxiliary Bishops James Massa and Octavio Cisneros, who will preach the homily in Spanish. Following Mass, at 1 p.m., the bishops will bless and lit up the torches of the faithful who will then make their ways to the different participating parishes throughout Brooklyn and Queens. The pilgrims will carry the torches back to their parishes as they sign, pray and spread messages of hope and love.
