The Diocese of Brooklyn is perhaps the most diverse Diocese in the nation. We serve 1.5 million Catholic families and the vast majority of Catholic families living in the Diocese are middle class and the working poor. The Brooklyn Diocese has long been at the forefront of advocacy for affordable housing.
The Jewish community of Williamsburg is a strong partner of the Diocese in fighting for the rights of the poor in our city. The proposed development of the Broadway Triangle will offer members of both our communities the opportunity to live in affordable housing. We repudiate the efforts of those that would seek to exploit our differences to advance their own parochial agenda.
The redevelopment of the Broadway Triangle will provide 1,800 units of affordable housing. We hope that the City will proceed expeditiously with its current rezoning timeline.
