Diocese of Brooklyn To Support Annual March For Life

On Thursday, January 22nd, the Diocese of Brooklyn will join the 42nd Annual March for Life Rally in Washington, D.C.

DeSales Media Group, the communications arm of the diocese, is sponsoring 11 buses that will travel from different points of Brooklyn and Queens to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., where the rally will start at noon. At their full capacities, these buses will bring some 550 parishioners, students, youth ministry groups, and clergy to march at the pro-life demonstration.

“This event provides an opportunity for us to gather in our Nation’s capital and march down Constitution Avenue, ending at the Supreme Court, where the decision to make abortion legal in the United States has set a destructive path and human life has been reduced to a choice. It is unfortunate that there is a fundamental misunderstanding of the beginning of human life, its innate dignity and the possibility of terminating life,” said the Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn.

The March for Life is a pro-life peaceful demonstration that has been taking place every year since 1973, on or around the anniversary of the United States Supreme Court’s decision to legalize abortion. Demonstrators gather to show respect for all human life from its very beginning in conception.

NET TV, the diocesan cable network, will feature special programming for the day. At 7:30 a.m. EST, there will be a live broadcast of the Closing Mass of the National Prayer Vigil for Life, from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Following the Mass, the “I Was Wrong” documentary will tell the moving story of two women affected by abortion who had a change of heart. The Tablet, the only weekly Catholic newspaper in New York City, and Currents, the first Catholic daily news program in the Nation, will be in Washington, D.C. covering the March for Life. Full coverage will be featured in next week’s paper and special reports will air on Currents this Friday, January 23rd, at 7:30 p.m.

NET TV will also be shooting a March for Life special. NET TV’s production team will follow a group of pilgrims traveling from Brooklyn to attend the rally, as they document this changing experience before, during, and after the rally.
