Executive Director/Principal – Catherine Laboure Special Education Program

Summary

The Executive Director is the chief operational administrator of the program and principal of the school. The Executive Director/Principal develops, implements and directs the pedagogy of the Program which operates within the Department of Education, Diocese of Brooklyn. The Director establishes and implements program policies that are consistent with the rules and regulations established by the Department of Education of the State of New York and the Board of Regents. The Executive Director interfaces with the President/CEO, Board of Directors, Office of the Catholic Schools Superintendent, Department of Education of the City of New York, Department of Education of the State of New York, community, government agencies, as well as school administrators to keep them apprised of needs of students, families and staffed served by the program. The Director is expected to keep the program in compliance with all local, city and state regulations by implementing accountability measures and programs so that the program remains in compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Overall supervision of the Laboure Special Education Program
  • Creation and implementation of Program Budget
  • Oversee fundraising activities
  • Liaison with Department of Education on Special Education matters
  • Central Based Support Team
    • School Based Support Team
    • Integrated Learning Center
  • Liaison with State Education
  • Keep track of all funded students, add and delete students as necessary
  • Attend monthly IAC meeting
  • Board of Directors Meeting
  • Lesson plans
  • Schedules of classroom
  • Classroom observations
  • Teacher evaluations
  • Hire and terminate
  • Liaison with all Diocesan Offices
  • Complete teachers turn over Grants 611 IDEA
  • CMR, CFR, STAC
  • Teachers Certification
  • Teachers Reimbursements
  • Direct PROSPER and all fundraising activities
  • Attend all PROSPER events
  • Keep track of PROSPER finances
  • Facilitator of Grants on behalf of program and faculty
  • Work with “Alive in Hope” Foundation
  • Work with “Futures in Education” Foundation
  • Review and approve all bills
  • Overall supervision of IEP process
  • Overall supervision of Alternative Assessment
  • Yearly Calendar
  • Student discipline/working closely with counselor
  • Inventory of all school boos, desks, computers, etc
  • Work closely with the CSE team for annual IEP meeting

Qualifications 

  • A Master’s Degree in Education or a related field of study
  • Previous experience as education program director
  • NYS teacher certificate in special education or equivalent
  • At least two years’ experience as a teacher in a special education program
  • Prior management experience in a school environment
  • Evidence of strong proposal and protocol writing
  • Capacity to understand and manage program finances and budget
  • Ability to formulate and carry out effective work plans
  • Ability to facilitate the coordination of multiple tasks and manage a variety of projects simultaneously
  • Working knowledge of BOE, DHMH and ASC policies, regulations, and requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Cleared background check and fingerprints indication ability to work with children
