DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN TO OBSERVE FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM; BEGINS NON-PARTISAN VOTER REGISTRATION CAMPAIGN

The Diocese of Brooklyn joins with Catholics throughout the United States to observe the
Fortnight for Freedom. This call by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for a 14-day
period of prayer, education and action in support of religious freedom begins June 21st
and ends July 4th.

As part of this, the diocese begins an aggressive non-partisan voter registration campaign
over the next four months. Voter registration drives will take place at all 197 parishes
throughout Brooklyn and Queens.
Church bells will ring throughout the two boroughs at 12 p.m. on June 21st, the vigil of
the Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More, two martyrs of the Faith, and will ring
again at 12 p.m. on July 4th, our Nation’s Independence Day.
On Friday, June 22nd, Catholic young people from all over Brooklyn and Queens will
begin the diocesan celebration by joining together for a 12-hour marathon of prayer
before the Blessed Sacrament. Nocturnal Adoration follows a 7 p.m. Mass at The Church
of St. Joseph, 856 Pacific Street, Prospect Heights, and ends at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
