The Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn, announced this afternoon that he will visit with Catholic school students at St. Rose of Lima Elementary School, 154 Beach 84th Street, Rockaway Beach, tomorrow, Friday, November 16th, at 8:15 a.m.

“My primary concern has been for the safety and security of our children and their families, as well as the staff of our schools,” said Bishop DiMarzio. “My hope tomorrow is to let the children and their families know we have been with them since the beginning, and will continue to be with them as we navigate through what is slowly becoming a ‘new normal’ for us all since the storm.”
St. Rose of Lima, in particular, was able to reopen after a generator was secured, and is one of the few schools on the peninsula to begin classes again. Tomorrow will be their second day back to school.
“The impact of Hurricane Sandy has been traumatic for many of our families,” the Bishop added. “It will take some many months to recover. My hope is that our children and their parents know they are not alone and we the Church in Brooklyn and Queens stand with them.”
