Brooklyn, N.Y., Jan. 30, 2011 – Since 2008, the Diocese of Brooklyn has been involved in a strategic planning initiative for Catholic education, titled Preserving the Vision. Over the course of three years, seventeen new Catholic academies have been established.

I stand here this afternoon appalled by the vital statistics in our City which seem to suggest that so many of our young mothers are opting to terminate the lives of unborn children. As the leaders of faith based communities in our City we must redouble our efforts to ensure that young mothers have the support systems necessary to cope with potential alienation from family and loved ones as well as continue to meet the demands of education and/or work.
Diocese Of Brooklyn Implements First Phase Of Parish Reconfigurations
Brooklyn, NY (November 14, 2010) – After an inclusive, eight-month process with participation from a full range of religious and lay stakeholders, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn has begun implementation of a strategy designed to ensure the long-term viability of parishes throughout the Diocese. Statement on Fire at St. Mary Magdalene
Last night at 11pm the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene was ravaged by fire. The cause of the fire is unknown.
The parish was founded in 1913 and the present church was built in 1927. Located in the Springfield Gardens section of Queens, the parish serves over 400 congregants. All religious artifacts were destroyed by the fire. Read more
Statement on the Safety of the Children
The Gavin Group, Inc., a Boston-based independent firm headed by William A. Gavin, a retired FBI official, reported that the Diocese of Brooklyn continues to be in full compliance with the requirements of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The most recent audit covered the period from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010. The results are based on an exhaustive review of policies, documents, and interviews with Diocesan officials, parish and community members.

Saint Charles Cemetery Vandalized
Vandals gained entrance to three private family mausoleums at Saint Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Sadly, there was physical damage to each of the monuments.
Canonization of Brooklyn Priest Monsignor Bernard Quinn
