Diocese of Brooklyn Regarding Reverend Elvis Elano

In August of 2008 Ms. Judith Rodrigues-Lytwyn informed the Diocese of Brooklyn that she had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a priest who had served in the diocese. Despite repeated requests on the part of diocesan officials, she neither would name the priest nor would she identify the parish in which the priest had served.

We understand that yesterday the parish Our Lady of the Snows was served with a summons. Today documents have been turned over to counsel for review. We have not had the opportunity to review the summons and therefore have no statement regarding the lawsuit at this time.

Reverend Elvis Elano was ordained a priest in the Philippines on December 3, 1992. He is a member of the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity and not a priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn. He has served in three parishes of the Diocese of Brooklyn — Immaculate Conception Church, Astoria (August 8, 2001-June 28, 2004); Our Lady of Grace, Gravesend (June 28, 2004 – June 30, 2007); Our Lady of the Snows, Floral Park (June 30, 2007 – June 30, 2008).

He left the Diocese of Brooklyn to serve in the Archdiocese of New York.
