Becoming a Catholic as a Teenager
As a parent with a child exploring the Catholic faith, you are guiding a precious journey of spiritual growth and discovery. For kids aged 8 through 8th grade who are not yet baptized, the Catholic Church offers a heartfelt invitation to a special preparation journey. Over three years, your child will embark on a path culminating in the celebration of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, typically embraced together during the Easter season.
This period is more than preparation for a ceremony; it’s an opportunity for your child to weave their own tapestry of faith, understanding, and belonging within the Catholic community. It’s a time filled with learning, questioning, and growing closer to God, with you as their guiding light.
For younger children under 8, the Church extends the gentle embrace of the Infant Rite of Baptism, welcoming them into a life of faith.
We are here to support you and your child on this sacred journey, providing training, resources, and consultation to ensure that the path to initiation is enriching, comprehensible, and filled with the joy of discovery. These resources are readily available for both English and Spanish-speaking families.
Embrace this journey of faith with your child and watch as it enriches your family life with a deeper sense of purpose, community, and spiritual joy.
Baptism is a joyous occasion for the parish as well as the family having their child baptized. Therefore, the local parish rightfully coordinates all baptism preparation and services. If you are new to the Diocese and have not yet found your local parish, see the parish finder below.
