DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN TO CELEBRATE POLISH AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

For Immediate Release: October 17, 2025

The Diocese of Brooklyn will host a special Mass in honor of Polish American Heritage Month this Sunday, October 19, 2025, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, located at 856 Pacific Street, located in the Prospect Heights section of Brooklyn.

Archbishop Wiesław Śmigiel, the Roman Catholic metropolitan archbishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Szczecin-Kamień in Poland, will serve as the main celebrant. Bishop Robert Brennan and Auxiliary Bishop Witold Mroziewski of the Diocese of Brooklyn will concelebrate the Mass.

This October marks the 44th Annual Polish American Heritage Month, established to highlight the contributions that Polish Americans have made to the United States. The Polish Anniversary Mass will also celebrate the 1000th Anniversary of the Founding of the Kingdom of Poland.

The “1000th Anniversary of the Founding of the Kingdom of Poland” refers to the celebration of the millennium of the coronation of Bolesław the Brave (Bolesław Chrobry), which in traditional historical interpretation marks the establishment of the Kingdom of Poland.

The Mass will feature a children’s choir and other Polish musical groups and organizations.

Members of the media are invited to attend.
