BISHOP BRENNAN TO CELEBRATE SPECIAL MASS FOR THE PEOPLE OF COLOMBIA

Bishop Robert Brennan, Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn, which includes Queens, will celebrate a special Mass tonight, Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., dedicated to the people of Colombia following the devastating 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck the western part of the country last week.

The Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 34-43 93rd Street in Jackson Heights, Queens, and will bring together members of the Colombian community and the faithful of Brooklyn and Queens in prayer and solidarity with those impacted by the earthquake.

The Diocese of Brooklyn offers prayers for those who have lost their lives, those who have been injured, and all who continue to face the difficult days ahead amid widespread damage and disruptions to power, water, and other essential resources. The Diocese is grateful for the first responders, search-and-rescue teams, medical professionals, volunteers, and others who have been working tirelessly to bring aid and assistance to those in need.

Bishop Brennan has asked all parishes in Brooklyn and Queens to take up a voluntary second collection to assist the people of Colombia. All donations received by the Diocese of Brooklyn will be sent to Catholic Relief Services (CRS) to provide direct humanitarian assistance, including shelter, food, and other essential aid to those affected by the earthquake.
