Overview

The Office of the Episcopal Delegate for Religious is dedicated to providing pastoral presence and support to the women and men living a consecrated life within the Diocese of Brooklyn. Our mission is to nurture and enhance collegial relationships among the laity, clergy, and members of consecrated life, contributing positively to the vitality of the local Church. Through various initiatives and services, the Office aims to uphold the spiritual well-being and communal harmony of all individuals dedicated to religious life.

Our Mission

As the Episcopal Delegate for Religious, Sr. Maryann Seton Lopiccolo serves as a pivotal connection maker within the diocese. The Office is a resource for all members of Consecrated Life, Major Superiors, pastors, clergy, Diocesan agencies, De Sales Media, the Diocesan Bishop, and Curial Staff. The Delegate’s primary role involves regular interactions and consultations with a broad spectrum of the religious community, from bishops and diocesan leaders to major superiors and local religious communities.

Activities and Services

  • Consultation and Visitation: Engaging in regular visits and consultations with monasteries, local religious communities, and friaries.

  • Council of Religious: Chairing the Council of Religious and planning diocesan functions such as Jubilee celebrations, World Day for Consecrated Life, and days of prayer.

  • Support for New Communities: Assisting new religious communities, especially those from outside the U.S., with establishment, housing, ministry, and navigating immigration regulations.

  • Parish and Pastoral Support: Addressing typical areas of concern such as housing for religious, ministry agreements, religious compensation, and distribution of materials for the World Day for Consecrated Life and the Religious Retirement Fund Collection.

  • Local Consultation: Providing local consultation as needed to ensure the needs and concerns of religious communities and individuals are met effectively.

Through these activities, the Office of Episcopal Delegate for Religious remains committed to enhancing the spiritual and communal life of those devoted to consecrated life, ensuring their needs are met and their voices are heard within the broader church community.
