Overview

The Office for Clergy Personnel supports the Vicar for Clergy and Consecrated Life in planning, developing, reviewing, and executing all policies and procedures in relation to the clergy of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn. The Office assists all clergy, their parishes, and diocesan agencies, through the maintenance of proper databases, reporting controls, and communication.

Format

The Office for Clergy Personnel functions as part of the Clergy Personnel System and is staffed by the Coordinator of the Office for Clergy Personnel, and the Executive Assistant, who assists the coordinator with the administration of the daily functions of the Office for Clergy Personnel. In addition, two Administrative Assistants, one in charge of the daily duties of the Hospital and Healthcare Chaplaincy Program and another who oversees the non-incardinated short-term priest’s division, including the processing of Religious Visas (R-1) for non-incardinated, religious, and lay ministers.

Functions

The Office for Clergy Personnel assists the Vicar and Associate Vicar for Clergy and Consecrated Life in the coordination of the Personnel Assignment Board, as it relates to the assignment of priests and permanent deacons. The Office for Clergy Personnel also aids those involved in the clergy personnel system and the care of all clergy needs.  It oversees those practical matters associated with the clergy personnel assignments in addition to maintaining and managing the affairs of the OCP. With the use of several databases and filing systems, it maintains contact information on all priests and deacons assigned to ministry or residence in the Diocese of Brooklyn, as well as diocesan priests who are ministering outside the diocese and abroad. The Office also maintains regular contact with the Chancellor’s Office, Safe Environment, and Human Resources-Medical Benefits, to process all the required documentation and make sure that the assigned clergy comply with the policies and processes of the diocese for their ministry.   

Intra-Agency Relationships

On the day-to-day operation of the Office for Clergy Personnel, the office will interact with agencies and individuals such as:

  • Office of the Ordinary
  • Vicar for Clergy and Consecrated Life 
  • Personnel Assignment Board 
  • Human Resources – Medical 
  • Accounting and Office of the Econome 
  • Personnel Committee of the
  • Presbyteral Council 
  • Coordinator of Senior Priests

In addition to the above agencies, there is a daily need, according to operations, to interact with Human Resources, the Chancery Office, the Vicar General, the Moderator of the Curia, the Regional Episcopal Vicars Office, and DeSales Media.

Service

The Office for Clergy Personnel is dedicated and is responsible for the orderly handling of all matters pertaining to the placements of incardinated priests, permanent deacons, long-term and short-term non-incardinated priests ministering in the parishes and agencies of the Diocese of Brooklyn.

It serves and functions as a liaison between priests/deacons and the Ordinary of the Diocese of Brooklyn, between the priests/deacons and the Personnel Assignment Board, and between the Personnel Assignment Board and the Ordinary of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
