Diocese of Brooklyn

Nigerian Apostolate

Overview

The Nigerian Apostolate is a community made up of Nigerian parishioners in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Open to all the different tribes of Nigeria, the group is largely made up of Catholics from the Igbo Tribe. Nigerian Masses are celebrated in three churches in the diocese; St. Fortunata Church in Brooklyn where the Igbo Mass is celebrated every Sunday of the week at 1:30 PM, St. Clement Pope, Queens every Sunday at 12:30 PM, and St. Paul’s the Apostles Church, Queens, at 3 PM every third Sunday of the month.

These gatherings bring the people together to share their common heritage, to partake in the body of Christ through their cultural experience, and is an opportunity to socialize in a way common to their life experiences. These communities have helped so many Catholics bring up their children in faith, help one another in difficulties, share important growth information, and above all, share the love of Christ in us.
