Garifuna Apostolate

Overview

The Garifuna Apostolate serves the spiritual and community needs of the Garifuna people of Central America and the Caribbean.  A monthly mass is celebrated on the last Sunday of each month at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 680  Mother Gaston Blvd., Brooklyn, at 3:00 PM. A social takes place afterward.  Retreat days of recollection take place during Advent and Lent.  Baptisms, Funeral/wake services, and weddings are provided as called for. Traditional Liturgical/cultural dance programs and drum lessons are provided to the youth to enrich their appreciation of the culture.  Annual events celebrating Garifuna history and culture take place in November and September each year. Diocesan Apostolate leaders take part in triannual conferences in Central America.
