Alpha

The Diocese of Brooklyn wholeheartedly endorses the Alpha program as a key initiative in our parishes, nurturing the journey of faith and understanding. Alpha is an 11 week course that creates a space where people come and discuss life’s big questions in a friendly, open and informal environment. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone’s welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, universities, homes—you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.

The Diocese recognizes Alpha as an invaluable evangelization tool, providing an inviting platform for individuals to explore and deepen their faith. The program aligns seamlessly with our mission of welcoming all to the teachings of Christ. 

Not only does Alpha invite exploration in faith but also serves as a dynamic platform for practicing evangelization. For the Catholic, it offers a unique opportunity to witness and share the richness of their faith journey. Engaging in Alpha encourages growth in one’s ability to evangelize, providing a fulfilling way to live out one’s formation. It’s a space where the experienced faithful can guide, inspire, and support others, enriching their own spiritual journey through the act of sharing the Gospel.

The program also serves as an ideal starting point for those considering the path to Catholicism, offering a foundation before entering the more formal OCIA process. It creates an environment of hospitality and open conversation, where questions are encouraged and faith is shared. Through running Alpha, we aim to foster a community where exploration and growth in faith are both accessible and enriching.
