Diocese of Brooklyn

Knights of Columbus

Overview

Knights of Columbus in the Diocese of Brooklyn comprises Kings and Queens Counties in the City of New York. They are a religious fraternal organization founded in 1882 by Blessed Father Michael McGivney. He and his parishioners of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Connecticut, intent was to bring financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled, needy members, and their families. Blessed McGivney is currently on his journey to sainthood.

Knights of Columbus’ core values are charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. They lead, serve, protect, and defend. As Catholic men of faith and charity, they are a brotherhood that offers fellowship to Catholics who recognize their duty to God, their family, and those around them. They serve the Church, the country, and their neighbors. Prayer and devotion help them deepen their relation to God.

There are presently 87 councils home to over 14,000 Knights in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Brooklyn #60 in Sunset Park, is the first KofC Council in New York State. Bishop Thomas Vose Daily Council #17000 is named after our late bishop and former Supreme Chaplain.

Father Michael Gelfant is the Associate State Chaplain for the New York State Knights of Columbus Council. He also serves as the diocesan liaison of the Knights of Columbus.
