Our Lady of Sorrows Parish to Honor Departing Pastor, Bishop-elect Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez with Farewell Mass & Celebration

The parish of Our Lady of Sorrows, located in Corona, Queens, will host a special sendoff this Sunday, February 15, 2026, for its beloved pastor, Bishop-elect Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez, who will be ordained and installed next week as the sixth bishop of Palm Beach, Florida. 

The farewell events will include opportunities for all parishioners to express their gratitude throughout the day. At the conclusion of each regularly scheduled Mass, parishioners will have the opportunity to greet and say farewell to Bishop-elect Rodríguez in the church plaza, culminating in a Special Farewell Mass at 3:00 p.m. and a ticketed reception at 4:30 p.m. in the parish auditorium.

On December 19, 2025, Pope Leo appointed Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez the sixth Bishop of Palm Beach. He will be ordained a bishop on February 24, 2026. Bishop-Elect Rodríguez was born in the Dominican Republic and ordained to the priesthood on July 3, 2004, in Santo Domingo.

Then Father Rodriguez came to the Diocese of Brooklyn in 2009, assigned as a parochial vicar at St. Michael Parish in Sunset Park (Brooklyn) until 2011. During his time as pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Williamsburg (2011-2014), he was incardinated into (officially affiliated with) the diocese on June 29, 2012. He then served as the pastor of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Jamaica (Queens) from 2014 to 2020 and has served as pastor at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Corona since 2020.
