Bishop Robert Brennan Joins FDNY in Remembering September 11

Bishop Robert Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, will be the main celebrant at a Mass tomorrow, Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Noon at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, located at 856 Pacific Street in the Prospect Heights section of Brooklyn, dedicated to the 24th Anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Prior to the Mass, members of the FDNY’s Battalion 57 in Brooklyn will lead a procession from the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge to the Brooklyn side and then continue to walk to the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, passing firehouses along the route. Bishop Brennan will take part in the procession.

The firefighters will carry 25 flags, one American flag and 24 FDNY flags, to represent the 23 members of Battalion 57 who died that day and a battalion member’s brother who also lost his life in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Father Anthony Palombo, a priest of the Archdiocese of Newark, will serve as the homilist at the Mass. Father Palombo’s father, Firefighter Frank Palombo, was killed in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Battalion 57 consists of several fire stations and multiple fire companies, including 4 Battalion Chiefs, Engine Companies 217, 219, 230, and 235, as well as Ladder Companies 102 and 105.
