For Immediate Release: April 17, 2025

Bishop Robert Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, will lead the Catholics of Brooklyn and Queens in numerous services during this Holy Week to celebrate the essence of the Christian faith—the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Holy Thursday, April 17

*At 7:30 p.m. Bishop Brennan will celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, which commemorates the institution of the Holy Eucharist. The Mass will be held at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, located at 856 Pacific Street in the Prospect Heights section of Brooklyn.

Good Friday, April 18

At 10 a.m., Bishop Brennan will lead The Way of the Cross procession across the Brooklyn Bridge, stopping at City Hall, and concluding at the Orthodox Shrine of St. Nicholas at the World Trade Center, 130 Liberty Street in Lower Manhattan at 1:30 p.m.

His Eminence Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan (Archdiocese of New York) will be at the Cathedral Basilica of St. James, and since the Holy Days are shared this calendar year, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America (Greek Orthodox Church of America) will participate as well.

*At 3 p.m., Bishop Brennan will preside over the Solemn Liturgy of the Passion and Death of Our Lord on the cross at The Cathedral Basilica of St. James, located at the corner of Jay Street and Cathedral Place in Downtown Brooklyn.

At 7 p.m., Bishop Brennan will join the parish of Sacred Heart St. Stephen’s for a Good Friday evening procession through the Carroll Gardens neighborhood. The procession will begin at the church located at 125 Summit Street.

Holy Saturday, April 19

At 10 a.m., Bishop Brennan will join the parishioners of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, located at 52-29 83rd Street in the Elmhurst section of Queens, for the blessing of the Easter baskets. The Catholic tradition invites the faithful to bring baskets of Easter food to be blessed.

*At 8 p.m., the Church commemorates the time Jesus spent in the tomb. Then, after sunset, Easter Vigil Services throughout Brooklyn and Queens will celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is the most important liturgy of the year. This year, Bishop Brennan will celebrate the Easter Vigil at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, located at 856 Pacific Street in the Prospect Heights section of Brooklyn.

Easter Sunday, April 20

*At 11 a.m., Bishop Brennan will be the main celebrant at Easter Sunday Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of St. James, located at the intersection of Cathedral Place and Jay Street, in Downtown Brooklyn.
