Mary is the most celebrated saint in the Catholic world. Though her appearances in the Bible are brief, the impact of what her role played opens up so many profound revelations on what it means about God. Today, we are praying the Angelus prayer to reflect on the moment Christ was conceived.

This prayer brings to mind both the role Mary had in being the mother of the second person of The Trinity, and the fact that God became man in the fullest sense. Mary was chosen (meaning she was always chosen) to be the mother of Jesus, and received incredible Grace to do so, but she also freely chose to take up the role.

We also reflect on God becoming man. Jesus did not appear fully grown and all powerful like a demigod. True God had to become True man. Jesus was both one of us and entirely beyond us. He was conceived, he was hungry, he depended on a mother and father, he grew up, had a job, scraped his knee. God knows all of our experience because he lived it all himself.

Take a minute to invite this wonderful reflection into your day. 

V/. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,
R/. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

V/ Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you;
blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
R/ Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

V/. Behold the handmaid of the Lord,
R/. Be it done unto me according to your Word.

Hail Mary…

V/. And the Word was made flesh,
R/. And dwelt among us.

V/. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
R/. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray:

V/ Let us pray. Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts: that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an Angel, may by his Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of his Resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
R/ Amen.
