NET TV TO AIR SPECIAL PROGRAM, “THE TRUTH ABOUT SUICIDE”

Feb. 13, 2017 – More than 44,000 Americans end their own lives each year, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. That makes suicide the 10th leading cause of death in the United States.  Clearly, suicide touches the lives of so many families and yet, it’s a topic that is rarely discussed candidly.

On Monday, Feb. 13 at 8:30 p.m., NET TV will start airing a special program entitled, The Truth About Suicide.  Currents Anchor Liz Faubles hosts a panel discussion about the pain that leads so many to end their own lives, and how their loved ones can find a path to healing. Her guests include:

Carla Fine: Ms. Fine’s late husband, a prominent NYC physician, killed himself in 1989. As part of her own healing journey, Ms. Fine wrote the book, No Time To Say Goodbye: Surviving the Suicide of a Loved One. She recently wrote a guest column for The Tablet newspaper. It can be found here:https://thetablet.org/surviving-the-suicide-of-a-loved-one/

Rev. Monsignor Robert Romano: Msgr. Romano is a Pastor and NYPD Chaplain. He is the first responder on scenes involving the death of an officer.  Sadly, Msgr. Romano has responded to at least 50 suicides since becoming a chaplain in 1998.  He talks about the devastation this desperate decision causes the officers’ colleagues and their families.

Dr. Michael Myers: Dr. Myers is a psychiatrist specializing in suicide prevention, a professor, and the co-author of the book, Touched By Suicide: Hope and Healing After Loss.

Michael Spinelli: Mr. Spinelli, 23, attempted suicide twice. He has since overcome his depression. Today, he proudly talks about his renewed faith, and openly shares his story in hopes of helping others.
