BISHOP DIMARZIO TO BLESS HOLY OILS AND PRESIDE OVER RENEWAL OF PRIESTLY VOWS AT CHRISM MASS

On Tuesday, March 22nd at 8 p.m., the Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, will celebrate the annual Mass of the Chrism at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, 856 Pacific Street, Brooklyn, NY. During the Mass, the bishop will bless the oils used for sacramental anointing. He will also preside over the renewal of promises made by priests serving the diocese in Brooklyn and Queens.

Chrism Mass is one of the most solemn and significant liturgies of the Catholic Church. It is marked by the ceremonial blessing of the oil of catechumens, the oil of the sick, and consecration of the oil of chrism, which will be used in all churches of the Diocese of Brooklyn throughout the liturgical year. The oils are used to anoint the sick, baptize catechumens and infants, ordain priests, and anoint altars. This Mass is celebrated in dioceses around the world, including Rome.

“This ancient and solemn tradition held during Holy Week brings the Diocese together in one of the most holy seasons. It is a moment were we, as men of God, renew our priestly vows to serve the Lord and we, as a community, celebrate the faith that unites us all,” said Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio.

The Chrism Mass will be broadcast LIVE on NET TV at 8 p.m. EST.
