MONS. ROBERT BRENNAN CELEBRARÁ EL MIÉRCOLES DE CENIZA
Y DARÁ INICIO A LA PEREGRINACIÓN DIOCESANA DE CUARESMA

El Reverendísimo Robert J. Brennan, obispo de Brooklyn, celebrará la Misa de mediodía e impondrá la ceniza este Miércoles de Ceniza, 22 de febrero de 2023, en la Basílica Catedral de St. James, situada en el 250 Cathedral Place, en el downtown de Brooklyn.

La primera Peregrinación Diocesana de Cuaresma de 2023 también comenzará el Miércoles de Ceniza y continuará durante 40 días, recorriendo iglesias por todo Brooklyn y Queens. Al final de la Santa Misa del Miércoles de Ceniza, Mons. Brennan dará inicio a la Peregrinación con la Adoración Eucarística en St. James. Durante la peregrinación por las diferentes iglesias se celebrarán Misas, habrá confesiones, así como rezos del Rosario y momentos de reflexión. Los peregrinos recibirán un pasaporte que podrán acuñar en cada una de las iglesias que visiten. (PDF adjunto).

La Misa y Adoración Eucarística del Miércoles de Ceniza se retransmitirán en directo por el canal de cable diocesano de Brooklyn, NET-TV, disponible en el canal 97 (Spectrum), canal 30 (Optimum) y canal 548 (Fios).

Otras misas que celebrará mañana Mons. Brennan donde también se impondrán las cenizas:

  • 7 a.m. Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación (Our Lady of Consolation Church), 184 Metropolitan Avenue, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (bilingüe: inglés y polaco)
  • 4 p.m. Iglesia de St. Patrick, 39-38 29th Street, Long Island City, Queens (bilingüe: inglés y español)

El Miércoles de Ceniza es la celebración cristiana que marca el comienzo de la Cuaresma. Como es costumbre, la ceniza se obtiene de las palmas bendecidas el Domingo de Ramos del año anterior, que se queman y se mezclan con agua bendita, y termina con la celebración de la Misa de la Cena del Señor, que marca el inicio del Triduo Pascual, los tres días más sagrados del año: Jueves Santo, Viernes Santo y Vigilia Pascual. El Domingo de Resurrección este año se celebrará el 9 de abril.

Brooklyn Bishop Robert Brennan’s Ash Wednesday Schedule & Lenten Pilgrimage Kick-off

BISHOP ROBERT BRENNAN TO CELEBRATE ASH WEDNESDAY AND KICK-OFF DIOCESAN LENTEN PILGRIMAGE 

The Most Reverend Robert J. Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, will celebrate the Noon Mass and distribute ashes tomorrow, Ash Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at St. James Cathedral Basilica, located at 250 Cathedral Place in Downtown Brooklyn.

The first ever 2023 Diocesan Lenten Pilgrimage will also begin on Ash Wednesday and continue for 40 days, visiting churches throughout Brooklyn and Queens. At the conclusion of the Ash Wednesday Mass, Bishop Brennan will begin the Pilgrimage with Eucharistic Adoration at St. James. At the different churches throughout the pilgrimage, the visits will include Mass, confession, praying the Rosary, and time for reflection. Pilgrims will receive a passport they can get stamped at each church they visit. (PDF attached)

Tomorrow’s Mass and Eucharistic Adoration will be broadcast live on the Brooklyn Diocesan Cable Channel, NET-TV, available on Channel 97 (Spectrum), Channel 30 (Optimum), and Channel 548 (Fios).

Ash Wednesday begins the Christian observance of the season of Lent. As is customary, the ashes used on Ash Wednesday are made by burning the blessed palms distributed the prior year on Palm Sunday. Lent ends with the celebration of the Sacred Triduum, the three holiest days of the year: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. Easter Sunday will be celebrated this year on April 9, 2023.

Announcement of Death – Reverend Monsignor John W. Maloney

Most Reverend Robert J. Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, regrets to inform you of the death of Reverend Monsignor John W. Maloney, a retired priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Monsignor Maloney was born on June 4, 1949, in New York, was ordained to the Priesthood on April 19, 1975, and died Thursday, February 2, 2023.

Monsignor Maloney served the Diocese of Brooklyn as Pastor of the Parishes of Saint Anselm (Brooklyn), Our Lady of Light (Saint Albans), and Saint Mary Magdalene (Springfield Gardens). He also served as Episcopal Vicar for Queens South, and Parochial Vicar of the Parish of Saint Pascal Baylon (Saint Albans). He was also in residence at the Parish of Our Lady of Angels (Brooklyn). On March 1, 2007, Monsignor Maloney was named Prelate of Honor to His Holiness. The arrangements are as follows:

Most Reverend Robert J. Brennan, Bishop of Brooklyn, regrets to inform you of the death of Reverend Frank Amato, S.A.C., a retired priest of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottine Fathers) of the Immaculate Conception Province, who served in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Father Amato was born on September 26, 1941, was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1996, and died on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Father Amato served the Diocese of Brooklyn as Pastor of the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary of Pompeii (Brooklyn).
