Bishop DiMarzio Concludes Apostolic Visitation in Buffalo

 

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn has just concluded an Apostolic Visitation of the Diocese of Buffalo.

The Bishop made three trips; a total of seven days. He met with and interviewed close to 80 individuals; both clergy and laypeople, including members of the Presbyteral Council, Diocesan Consultors, Diocesan Finance Council, Diocesan Pastoral Council, Territorial Vicars, and Senior Priests. He also spoke with representatives of outside groups such as the Movement to Restore Trust, college presidents, and other interested parties.

This Apostolic Visitation was requested by the Holy See earlier this month.

Now that Bishop DiMarzio has finished his interviews, he will compile the information and prepare a report which will be submitted to the Holy See.

No additional information will be shared beyond this statement at this time.

QUEENS CATHOLIC SCHOOL PRESENTS “SAINTS BE ALIVE” AND MODEL WAX MUSEUM

            The Diocese of Brooklyn today announced that a special event marking the Feast of All Saints, will take place tomorrow, Friday, November 1, 2019, featuring the students of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Academy. The celebration begins with an All Saints Day Mass at the St. Thomas the Apostle Church, located at 8719-88th Avenue in the Woodhaven section of Queens, at 9:00 am.

 

Following the Mass, the students dressed as Saints, will process to the school’s Mulz Hall, adjacent to the church. Students of grades 1, 2 and 3 will be part of the “Saints Be Alive” presentation and model wax museum.  The students of grades 4 and 5 will be presenting a performance of the beatitudes.

NEW PASTOR INSTALLED AT HOLY FAMILY CATHOLIC CHURCH IN QUEENS

            The Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, last weekend officially installed Father Sean Suckiel as the 7th Pastor of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, located in the Fresh Meadows section of Queens.

 

“I pray that my time as Pastor of Holy Family, be a time of Invasion of Grace, Hope, and Love for all our parishioners,” said Father Sean Suckiel.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL “CARNAVAL” TO MARK HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
Students also to wear jeans as “Denim Day” raises funds for Breast Cancer Research

The Diocese of Brooklyn today is announcing that St. Nicholas of Tolentine Catholic Academy will host a “Carnaval” to mark National Hispanic Heritage Month at the school tomorrow, Friday, October 25, 2019, beginning at 10:00 a.m., located at 80-22 Parsons Boulevard, in the Jamaica section of Queens.

 

Parents have volunteered to donate food, to create a school food festival for the students, representing cuisines from various Hispanic countries. There will also be brief presentations made to teach the students about the different cultures through lessons about countries including Mexico, Peru, Argentina and Colombia, as well as lessons about a specific dish and dances of Hispanic origin. There will also be student artwork on display which celebrating the Hispanic culture.

Additionally, the school will host “Denim Day” tomorrow, where students will wear jeans and raise money for breast cancer research.  Mr. Robert Lowenberg is the Principal of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Catholic Academy.

QUEENS CATHOLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS CELEBRATES HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

            The Diocese of Brooklyn is announcing that St. Sebastian Catholic Academy recently hosted a special assembly to commemorate National Hispanic Heritage Month at the school located in the Woodside section of Queens.

 

The special event featured students saying prayers and singing songs in Spanish, as well as a Salsa dance performance.  Throughout the last month, the students of St. Sebastian’s focused on Hispanic Heritage Month in their Spanish classes.

 

“At St. Sebastian, we embrace the Hispanic culture of our students.  Our Spanish teacher, Señora McGuire, does a wonderful job introducing the students to the Spanish language and cultural traditions.  During Hispanic Heritage Month, our students learned about the Hispanic culture through art, poetry, music, and dance.  Their hard work and talents shone though during our assembly to close out Hispanic Heritage month,” said Michelle Picarello, Principal of St. Sebastian Catholic Academy.

SAINT MICHAEL’S CATHOLIC ACADEMY TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CHILDREN’S SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MANDARIN-ENGLISH DUAL-LANGUAGE PROGRAM

 

Saint Michael’s Catholic Academy, the only Mandarin-English Dual-Language Catholic elementary school in New York State, will host their Fall Gala, tomorrow, Thursday, October 24, 2019, at the Sheraton LaGuardia East, located at 135-20 39th Avenue in Flushing, starting at 6:00 p.m.

 

Hosted by Linda Schmidt, FOX 5 News, the evening’s events will include formal recognition of The Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, The Rotary Club of Flushing, and Thomas James for their outstanding commitment to Catholic education in Queens, special student performances, and other exciting activities.

 

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio will receive the Saint Michael Archangel Award for his continual support of Catholic elementary education in Flushing and his national advocacy for immigrants in the United States.

 

The Rotary Club of Flushing will receive the Community Leadership Award for their long-standing support of marginalized families in Flushing through acts of charity which include the annual Christmas Party for the families of Saint Michael’s.

 

Mr. Thomas James,  a former faculty member of Saint Michael’s, will be honored with the Excellence in Education Award for his 25 years of parish involvement and outstanding teaching and mentoring within  Catholic school systems in New York and Florida.

 

Proceeds from the raffle and gala will be dedicated to scholarships and financial aid to make it possible for children to attend Saint Michael’s Catholic Academy; a unique Dual-Language Catholic school serving children from PreK through Eighth Grade in the heart of Flushing.

QUEENS CATHOLIC CHURCH CELEBRATES “ART FEST” THIS WEEKEND

            The Diocese of Brooklyn is announcing that Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church will host a parish “Art Fest” this weekend in the Church Hall, located at 215-35 38th Avenue, in the Bayside section of Queens.

 

The event will feature an array of artwork on display including photos, pencil and ink drawings, paintings and hand-crafted items. Among the highlights will be the display of artwork created by parishioner Mary Boyd and 4 generations of her family artistry.

 

The event will take place on Saturday, October 19, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Sunday, October 20, from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM and again from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
