SPECIAL GRADUATION AT QUEENS CATHOLIC SCHOOL TOMORROW

The Diocese of Brooklyn is announcing the St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy graduation, taking place in the church at 61-15 Grand Avenue this Friday, June 14 at 6 p.m., will have extraordinary meaning for one family, as a graduate will be the last in a line of 13 family members to be awarded a diploma from the school.

 

As a member of the Class of 2019, Alex Mansueto follows in the footsteps of his great-grandmother, his great aunt and uncle, his grandfather and grandmother, his uncles and cousins, his mother and his sister.  His great-grandmother, who was in the first graduating class, his grandmother, mother, and sister, will all be in attendance.

COLLARS VS. SCHOLARS BASEBALL GAME ANNOUNCED AS PART OF CATHOLIC SCHOOL NIGHT AT THE CYCLONES GAME

 

The Diocese of Brooklyn today announced Catholic School Night at MCU Park in Coney Island will be celebrated on Monday, June 17, as part of the Brooklyn Cyclones game against the Aberdeen IronBirds.

 

Prior to the start of the Cyclones’ game, a contest between “Collars vs. Scholars”, will take place on the field at 5:45 PM. This match-up will feature baseball played between priests and principals/school administrators.  Auxiliary Bishop Paul Sanchez and Dr. Tom Chadzutko, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for Brooklyn and Queens, are among those set to play.

 

Ed Wilkinson, Editor Emeritus of The Tablet, will serve as the umpire for this very special pre-game baseball challenge. A bobblehead doll has been created for the 2018 MVP of the Scholars team, Sister Shirlee Tremont of St. Bernadette Catholic Academy, who will be again taking the field this year.

 

The pre-game activities will also feature a ceremony honoring Catholic elementary school valedictorians and salutatorians brought to you by Catholic Telemedia Network (CTN).

United States Coast Guard Personnel, Response Boats and K-9 Officer to Visit St. Anselm Catholic Academy

            Brooklyn – The Diocese of Brooklyn is announcing the U.S. Coast Guard will visit the students of St. Anselm Catholic Academy located at 365-83rd Street in Bay Ridge on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at 12 PM to showcase the people, mission, and equipment to the children.

 

Highlights will include two 29-foot Response Boats and explosives K-9 Officer “Ruthie.” Students will have the opportunity to tour the Response Boats and try on the gear. The primary unit and personnel conducting the visit are from the Maritime Safety and Security Team New York that is based at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island.

 

Maritime Safety and Security Teams were established as part of the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 in direct response to the September 11, 2001 attacks, to enhance the domestic maritime security capability of the United States.

The Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, ordained four men to the priesthood for service in the Diocese of Brooklyn today, Saturday, June 1 at 11 am at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph’s located at 856 Pacific Street in the Prospect Heights section of Brooklyn.

 

The Ordained Priests are:

 

Father Edwin Alexander Ortiz, 35

Served as a U.S. Marines medic in Japan and in the U.S. Navy in Washington, D.C.

Home Parish of St. Mary Star of the Sea – St. Gertrude, Far Rockaway

Graduate of Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn
