M.A. Scholarship Program in Theology

The M.A. Scholarship Program in Theology provides financial assistance to those persons who are studying to become Parish Catechetical Leaders or Pastoral Associates in a parish. Persons who serve in diocesan leadership will also be considered.

Sponsors of the Program
The Pastoral Institute and the Office of Faith Formation are the sponsoring agencies. Financial assistance according to the individual’s need may be provided by the Alive in Hope Foundation. The Pastoral Institute serves as the coordinator of the program.

Components of the program
Spiritual Formation
: theological reflection groups, prayer, liturgical life in the parish.
Academic Preparation: the completion of a Master’s Degree or Graduate Certificate in Theology, Pastoral Ministry or Religious Studies.

Educational Institutions
Students study at St. John’s UniversityFordham University and the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception. St. John’s University and Fordham provide discounted tuition to students who are sponsored by the Pastoral Institute.

Application Process
The application process begins in February of each year.  Interested candidates should contact the Pastoral Institute in order to open a file for inclusion in the scholarship program.
