Lay Ministry Program
Affirming the baptismal call of women and men to serve the Diocese of Brooklyn, the Pastoral Institute sponsors the Lay Ministry Program. An integrated process of education and formation prepares participants for their roles as pastoral leaders and ministers for the New Evangelization.
Lay Pastoral Leaders are persons who serve the Church in many and diverse roles. You will find them serving as RCIA team members, youth ministers, coordinators of parish outreach, bereavement ministers, and in many other positions.
Parishes or agencies in the diocese sponsor candidates for the Lay Ministry Program. These sponsors also mentor the participants during their formation and help them to discern future ministerial responsibilities. The parish contributes toward the cost of preparing lay pastoral leaders. Each candidate pays a nominal fee with financial assistance provided for those who need it.
Information Sessions (Sesiones de Información) are held in English and Spanish each spring to provide an overview of the program. Prior registration is required. Parishes or potential candidates may also contact the Pastoral Institute for additional information.
Classes are offered in English and Spanish.
Las clases se ofrecen en inglés y en español.
