Faith Formation

SOE Green Logo

“Evangelization is the task of the Church. The Church, as the agent of evangelization, is more than an organic and hierarchical institution; she is first and foremost a people advancing on its pilgrim way towards God.”
– Apolstolic Exhortation “Evanelii Gaudium” of the Holy Father Francis

ADULT FAITH FORMATION

We often think that religious education, CCD, faith formation, or Sunday School is just for children and teens. For many years now, the Church has encouraged all people, regardless of age or academic background, to develop a practice of learning more about our Catholic faith. This is possible in Brooklyn and Queens by investigating what your local parish has to offer, or by going to www.bqonlineformation.org for a listing of courses, workshops, and events for adults. Adults learn differently from children and teens, so there are many opportunities for you to try. Whether you are actively part of your parish or you are just beginning to find out about the Catholic faith, Pope Francis reminds us that we are “a people advancing on its pilgrim way towards God.” Learn more about Adult Faith Formation.

Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Already baptized in another faith but wish to become Catholic? In need of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation? Learn more about the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) or the RCIA Adapted for Children.

CHILDHOOD FAITH FORMATION
“Helping children, young people and adults to get to know and love God more and more deeply, is one of the most beautiful educational adventures you can have.”– Pope Francis, in his audience with participants of the International Conference on Catechesis for the Year of Faith

Every Catholic parish or group of parishes in Brooklyn and Queens has a program of religious education/faith formation for children and teens (pre-kindergarten through grade twelve), organized by the pastor and catechetical leader and supported by trained catechists/instructors. Regular yearly participation (just like in the regular school setting) in a parish religious education program or Catholic school/academy is extremely important for a child or teen to grow in the Catholic faith. While parents are the first and primary educators of their children in the Catholic faith, the parish provides the community where the faith is enhanced and sustained.

Religious education programs vary from parish to parish, so it is a good idea to contact your local parish for specific program details.
