MISSION STATEMENT

The Mission of the Office of Religious Education and Evangelization is to promote, support and strengthen the catechetical ministry in the Diocese of Brooklyn.  The Office serves the religious education programs, youth ministry programs, and the RCIA process in the parishes of Brooklyn and Queens.  In addition, the Office provides guidance and networking opportunities for the Catholic School Religion Coordinators, Chairpersons of the Religion Departments of Catholic High Schools, and College Campus Ministers.  The Office embraces Jesus’ evangelizing mission through catechesis for people of all ages, fully believing in that  “process of transmitting the Gospel as the Christian community has received it, understands it, celebrates it, lives it, and communicates it” (GDC #105).  In order to realize this mission we dedicate ourselves to:

Evangelization: Proclaiming in word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all persons in their native languages, going out to invite them to share and grow in their faith.  Assisting ministers in recognizing the fact that all catechetical ministry must be seen through the lens of evangelization.

Professional and Spiritual Development: Realizing the call to on-going formation for all involved in a teaching or leadership role, the Office provides the following opportunities: Theological Updates, Days of Recollection, Retreats, Professional Development Days, Resources,Conferences for Catechists, and Professional Speakers.

Services and Networking:  Providing information through newsletters, e-mail and website. Arranging parish program visitations and speaking to parish groups, gathering ministerial groups to discuss concerns and ideas, and collaborating with other diocesan agencies to serve the people of God.

Educational and Formational Opportunities:   Enabling lay ministers to gain competency in the ministerial fields of catechesis, youth ministry, RCIA, and Catholic School Teacher, the Office offers Faith Formation Curriculum Guides and courses for basic, intermediate and advanced certification.
