Human Resource Generalist – FIELD 

Department/Office: Office of Human Resources

Location:                  310 Prospect Park West

An experienced HR professional is sought to service the Parishes, Schools and Academies of the Diocese of Brooklyn.

This individual will provide on-site guidance on Employee Relations issues, Retirement Benefits, Health and Medical benefits, and the Safe Environment mandates.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate knowledge of NYS employment law, defined benefit pension plans, 403 b, health insurance plans, short term and long term disability, and FMLA regulations.

Applicants should possess excellent interpersonal, group and phone communication skills in order to build relationships with pastors, principals, pastoral staffs and employees.  High level proficiency with popular business software applications is required. Applicants should be able to demonstrate ability to maintain a shared database of contacts with other HR divisions using VPN and MS OUTLOOK style e-mail client. 

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, have the ability to meet a quota of client visits using flexible work hours, be comfortable in a field oriented position, and have a working knowledge of the parishes within the Diocese of Brooklyn.

 Associate Superintendent for Strategic Planning, Government Programs and Services

Department/Office: Office of the Superintendent of Schools

 Position Description

The Associate Superintendent for Strategic Planning and Government Programs and Services is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services obtained through city, state, and federal programs and their connection to the recommendations found in Preserving the Vision. This individual will also provide consultation services necessary to implement government programs in all Catholic elementary and secondary schools. In addition, this individual will work collaboratively with pastors, principals, and lay directors in promoting the use of all appropriate and applicable government programs and services.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the Deputy Superintendent and serves as an office contact for and advocate with government agencies (city, state, and federal) to ensure that students in Catholic schools benefit, to the fullest extent possible, from all government programs and services including health and safety, education, nutrition, and transportation
  • Oversees assigned school’s implementation of the recommendations associated with Preserving the Vision
  • Communicates information/needs to and from schools and government agencies, supports local leadership in determining instructional priorities and facilitates all related professional development, maintains a database of the programs/received by schools
  • Assists the Deputy Superintendent in formulation of policies and procedures related to government programs and services and interprets the same to the field
  • Attends New York City and New York State meetings with the Deputy Superintendent
  • Creates template and reviews with schools the Crisis Management Plans
  • Interacts with the Office of Government Affairs and the Vicar for Communications as a point of contact with the New York State Catholic Conference and the Catholic Advocacy Network and the Catholic Community Relations Council
  • Serves as Secretary to the Elementary Principals Advisory Commission
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools

 Requirements

  • Practicing Roman Catholic
  • In depth familiarity and knowledge of the Roman Catholic Church, its tenets, structure, beliefs and attitudes, with a particular understanding of the Catholic Church within the Diocese of Brooklyn
  • Advanced degree and New York State certification as a school administrator
  • Minimum of five years experience as a Catholic and/or Public school administrator
  • Knowledge and expertise in all city, state, and federally funded programs and services
  • Ability and experience working in collaboration with others as well as training and experience in presenting information to others
  • Excellent written, verbal, and platform communication skills
  • Computer proficient and working knowledge of Microsoft Office components

Associate Superintendent for Strategic Planning and Governance

Department/Office: Office of the Superintendent of Schools

Location:                  Field Oriented Position with ICC Office

Position Description

The Associate Superintendent for Strategic Planning and Governance is responsible for the development of principles and guidelines that support the Academy Model of a Two Tier Governance Model. This individual will provide consultation services that are necessary to assist Pastors, Principals and Lay Directors in the implementation of the Academy Model of a Two Tier Governance Model.

 Principle Responsibilities

  • Works with the Members of the academies in the formation and development of the Boards of Directors
  • Schedules and plans on-going professional and personal development opportunities for the Board of Directors in collaboration with the Colleges and Universities through the St. Vincent de Paul Leadership Program
  • Recruits and interviews potential Directors for the new and existing Academies
  • Participates in all meetings of the Board of Directors of each Academy
  • Establishes communications among the Board of Directors to share best practices
  • Creates a Data Base for Members and Directors
  • Provides resources and materials for the Members and the Directors
  • Works closely with the principals of the Academies
  • In collaboration with the Associate Superintendent for Strategic Planning and Marketing posts regular updates and information regarding of the new Academies and the Governance Model
  • Works with the Associate Superintendent for Strategic Planning and Catholic Identity in the facilitation of the Catholic Identity Self Assessment Process
  • Works with the Associate Superintendent for Strategic Planning, Principal Professional Development and Leadership in the implementation of the Principal Performance Appraisal for Academy Principals
  • Works with the Catholic Elementary School Advisory Boards
  • Works closely with the Superintendent of Schools and the Governance Sub- Committee of the Preserving the Vision Advisory Committee

 Requirements

Executive Director for Special Education

Department/Agency:  Department of Education, Diocese of Brooklyn

Location:                  Catherine LaBoure School, Brooklyn

Position Overview:

The Executive Director for Special Education will serve as the Chief Operational and Financial Administrator for the Special Education program within the Department of Education, Diocese of Brooklyn. Also including but not limited to develop, implement and direct the special education program.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Interface with the Board of Directors and the members of The Department of

Education, Diocese of Brooklyn.

• Establish and implement program policies that are consistent with the funding

sources’ guidelines and human resources guidelines.

• Ensure that the Catherine Laboure Program has the staffing, resources and

facilities needed to provide an appropriate educational program

• Provide professional development opportunities in the area of special education.

• Supervise the Director of the Catherine Laboure Program to ensure that

appropriate educational services are being provided to the students and strong

lines of communication are maintained with parents and guardians.

• Establish appropriate staffing guidelines to meet the educational needs of the

students while operating within established budgetary guidelines.

• Prepare, implement, and monitor all work plans and budgets for all funding

sources.

• Seek additional funding streams, both governmental and private, to sustain and

expand the program.

• Initiate and maintain contact with state and local government representatives in

order to keep them informed of the needs of the students in the program as well

as to secure all funding that is available.

• Develop and implement the overall accountability measures so that the program

is in compliance with the regulations set forth by the funding sources and

sufficient funding is available to sustain the program.

• Establish marketing and development plans to secure enrollment and enhance the

program

• Establish a working relationship with directors of early childhood programs in

Brooklyn and Queens to facilitate the identification of students who would

benefit from early intervention.

• Initiate and maintain contact with local school districts and CSE’ to secure

appropriate referrals to the program.

• Establish and maintain strong ties with pastors, principals, DRE’s, and other

professionals so that they are aware of the services and placement available to

students with special needs.

REQUIREMENTS

• Advanced degree and New York State Certification as a school administrator.

• Minimum of five years experience as an administrator in public/private special

education program.

• Knowledge, expertise, ability and experience working with New York City and/or

New York State funding sources.

• Knowledge and experience in writing and managing government and private

grants.

• Strong networking skills with colleagues in the special education field.

• Strong communication skills.
